Jon Laster just lost all in a fire!

This weekend my neighbor woke me up to tell me she thought there was a fire downstairs. I ran down the steps to see a small fire coming from a wire in her ceiling beneath my bedroom. We doused it with water and ran upstairs to see if it burned through. After I ran upstairs I heard crackling in the floor beneath me and called 911. They showed up inside of 2 minutes asked me to step outside at which time I took the picture you see here! The firemen told me I probably had about 90 seconds left before they would have been collecting my remains because the fire had completely surrounded my room in the walls. They just stood there shaking there heads in disbelief!! So needless to say I'm happy to be here!!

I was standing outside barefoot with a t-shirt on and no shoes in 34 degree weather. I've since been given a jacket and a hat. That's all I own with the exception of a box that survived the fire with my passport and SS card in it. I'm always looking for the silver lining in any situation so I'm just feeling happy to get here. The Red Cross put  me in a hotel here in Brooklyn until tomorrow. I appreciate all the calls of concern, but since I am officially homeless now this is the only place to send the relief you've been asking about. Can't thank you enough for the prayers and kind words. Anything helps here as I'm down to a hat, jacket and my sense of humor. Everything went up dishes, cell phone, computers, Christmas presents for my family, furniture, notebooks fulls of jokes etc.

Finding first and last months rent in New York is a joke in and of itself. Finding it two days before Christmas has me online accepting help which is very unlike me. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday whatever you celebrate!! Please don't think I'm sittin around feeling sorry for myself I am still eternally grateful to be here and that you even took the time to read this.
