Jake's College Fund
Hello, my name is Jake Thompson. I was born and raised in Orlando, FL. I grew up in Winter Park for the early part of my childhood, right nextdoor to where I hope to attend school. I mention my childhood as I feel it is an important motivator in my life's story and why I am asking for your support today. My early life was not a good place for a child to be raised and the things that I was exposed to at such early traumatic ages has made my early 20's a bit difficult to adjust to. I'm beginning to let myself let these lifelong burdens go. And in doing so it has allowed me to find what I believe to be my true calling. I am starting this campaign in hopes to raise funds for tuition cost for attending Full Sail University in Winter Park. I plan to earn the Creative Writing for Entertainment Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree over the course of 32 months beginning this coming summer. I know this is sort of going out on a limb and I never like asking for help. But I do believe that this is something I'm pretty talented at and can go far in this business. If fully funded I plan to finish my degree, find work as a writer, then even return to earn my masters.
Once employed as a writrer I hope to work with some of the greatest talents we have in the industry today. Art is so important and keeping it evolving with new voices is key to maintaing a fresh, and entertaining atmosphere.
EDIT:
I have recently changed schools from Full Sail to Valencia Community College and then I plan to go to UCF. The cost is significantly lower than at Full Sail and I feel like it is a way better desicion. In doing so my campaign goal has dropped to only $3,500. I am still planning on getting a MacBook Pro for school and some extra money for books. I am still waiting for Financial Aid to go through so I may not need as much support or more I'm not sure. But I will keep the campaign updated as much as I can.
EDIT 2:
I'm all set to start at Valencia on Aug 29th. The goal is now $1,000 as Financial Aid will be covering the cost of tuition and should also cover most of my books. I just now need to get a good computer before classes start! Anything will help. I'm holding off on the MacBook Pro and will be getting something a little more afordable but still just as excellent. Currently looking at Windows-based Asus laptops.
Thank you for your time and contribution.
Best wishes,
Jake Thompson
