Jake's Rehabilitation Equipment

9th September 2013 changed Jake's life when he collapsed in front of myself and our 7 year old daughter and suffered a brain stem stroke which left him with locked in syndrome; imprisioned in his own body.   His mind memory and reason are intact, however he cannot move any of his limbs and is paralysed.   This has left him house bound, completely changing his life which has been devastating for Jake and our family.

Prior to this Jake was an active man working 50-60 hours a week rarely taking any sick leave.  Jake enjoyed being out doors fishing and spending time away wth our daughter and myself at every opportunity.  

Consultants at the time stated he had  a very poor prognosis and it was touch and go if he would survive.   Jake continues to have feeling all over his body and works hard at his physio to try and re route pathways around the damaged brain stem to try and regain movements .

Neurophysiotherapsts who are working closely with Jake are positive with the steady progress he is making and are focused on repetitive stimulation and movements to promote brain activity to muscle movements.

Jake's Neurophysiotherapist recommends the Thera Trainer hand and leg bike to provide the repetitive stimulation and movement necessary to promote brain activity needed for physical movments of his limbs.  We have trialled this piece of equipment for a period of 2 months and there has been noticeable improvement in movements of both arms and legs.

We are appealing for fundraising so we can puchase the Thera Trainer hand and leg bike as the trial period ends in July, which means we will have to return the bike. The purchase of the bike will allow Jake to continue to improve movement of arms and legs and potentially allow him to lead a normal life.
