Jarrod's obituary - written by his friend Diane Reed Veach
December 7, 1965 - September 3, 2021
Wyatt “Jarrod” Webb of Prescott passed away on September 3, 2021 at the age of 55. Fifty-five years does not feel like enough to the people who love him, but in that time Jarrod lived fully. He was an adventurer and delighted in his interaction with and reverence for the natural world. In 1991 at the age of 25, he solo-hiked the 2180+ mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. He loved to gather friends and family for trips down rivers, to rock climbing areas, on hiking trails, down canyons, to favorite fishing spots, or simply to a porch somewhere to talk about life or tell dirty jokes.
The highlight of Jarrod’s life was being father to his two children, who were a source of immeasurable joy for him.
Jarrod had a knack for recognizing special or magical moments in life, and each trip he took had a highlight - something funny or poignant that had happened. Like the group of 8 people sniffing a pair of clean socks that smelled like fresh fabric softener, discovered in the bottom of a dry bag on day 15 of a Colorado River trip when everything else was worn and stinky; or standing under a hot-springs waterfall on the Middle fork of the Salmon River on a cold October morning; or belaying his kids on their first rock climbs or coaching their softball and soccer teams. Many of his best moments were spent with a dog by his side, animals for which he had an abiding love.
Jarrod was infinitely talented as a musician, sculptor, storyteller, poet, bowyer, metalsmith, wood worker, and builder. He was a leader and a mentor, and his curiosity about people led him to befriend most people he encountered and quickly forge lasting friendships.
Jarrod was born in Atlanta, GA to Judy Webb, now of Boise, ID and Wyatt Webb, now of Tucson, AZ. He spent his youth in Tennessee, and in his 20s moved to Arizona where he lived the past 3 decades. He is survived by his parents, by his two children, and by their mother. Jarrod also leaves behind scores of friends who undoubtedly will remember his quick wit, decisiveness, booming laugh, and supreme storytelling, as well as hundreds of highlights.
