Jaxon's Story
Jaxon Crawford is a 3-year old boy who, up until two months ago, was an active outgoing kid full of energy and spunk. This little guy has had a number of challenges already in his short life with an undiagnosed immune deficiency disorder. He has been hospitalized several times over the last year with infections and other numerous difficulties. Most recently Jaxon was inflicted with the Herpes Zoster virus (chicken pox/shingles family) that invaded his spine and brain. Unfortunately, in addition to the Herpes Zoster, Jaxon was exposed to and contracted a rare parasitic infection called Baylisascaris that caused meningoencephalitis. As a result Jaxon suffered a stroke and brain damage that has effected his motor skills and language.
Jaxon has come a long way in his recovery , but his journey will continue to be a difficult one. He is still admitted at UC Davis Hospital where he is receiving occupational, physical, and speech therapy. We are hopeful that Jaxon will be discharged over the next several weeks and continue his therapy from home. While a lot of his medical expenses are covered through assisted medical insurance, his needs for mobility and special accommodations at home will be the family's responsibility. Please help us make the transition from hospital to home as easy for Jaxon as possible. Any monetary contribution and/or volunteer of services is warmly welcome.
