“All kids need a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them." ~ Earvin “Magic ” Johnson

YET RIGHT NOW, at this very moment this family who has been hit with a number of multiple surgeries (one being a diagnosis of cancer) and misfortunes (within less than two (2) months times)...need YOUR HELP to send this very special boy to D.C. for the 137th Annual White House Easter Egg Roll . We explain why below; but we cannot let them miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. With YOUR HELP, his Mom and Nana's love and sacrifices can be documented in a moment in time, he will never get to relive again, as a child. This is a GIFT for HIM and YOU can be a part of that.

________________________NOW THE STORY!!!

Meet Josh and his mom, Tomeka. Josh has Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Deprivation , but his mom doesn’t let his disability get in the way of him building magnificent asymmetrical things out of legos and  magnetics  and sharing his wide smiles and musical laughter with everyone he comes in contact with.

Josh’s mom, Tomeka, is the driving force behind making this dream a reality for her son. Not only does she homeschool Josh, she also runs a business that helps support her family. As a single mom, this is no easy task, and you can bet she’s never complained about all that comes with it!

Something from nothing - a dream into reality

Like any little boy, even those with ASD , Josh is clear on what he wants to do with his life and how he wants to impact - he dreams about changing the world. Now, with words, since age seven via multiple Speech and Occupational therapies, Josh will clearly tell you, he wants to be a builder or engineer and speaks incessantly about it.

For as long as Tomeka can remember, Josh has dreamed of meeting President Barack Obama and his dog Bo (though he’s allergic to dogs). Why? Because he stated one day, “Barack Obama looks like me. He [President Obama] doesn’t know his dad and I don’t know my dad, and he is smart like me. Except, I don’t want to be President of the United States; I want to be a builder and engineer, and he doesn’t build.”

Tomeka hasn’t told Josh about the possibility of going to the White House for the Easter Egg Roll because he has ASD , because if we can’t fund this opportunity, it would devastate him.

Tomeka’s mother has applied via "The LotteryThe Lottery ", on the family’s behalf, many times before and never been chosen.

Until NOW!

Fantastic news, right?

Every year the White House holds this event and welcomes children from all walks of life — even those with disabilities. What a fantastic opportunity for a kid like Josh!

But there’s a problem. A BIG problem.

Tomeka recently received news that she had thyroid cancer.  After having surgery for this, she had to undergo a second (immediate) major surgery less than one month after having a total hysterectomy due to yet another life threatening issue. She’s also about to receive post-surgery radiation treatments.

Prior to all of this, Josh’s nana suffered a stroke in June of 2014 and remained in a hospital for an entire month. Though Nana is still recovering, it  hasn’t stopped her from traveling all the way from Winter Haven to Plantation to help care for Josh while his mom heals.

As if dealing with a cancer diagnosis and the painful treatments weren’t enough, they’ve had to deal with a cascade of other misfortunes from an air conditioning system failure to random transportation issues, additional unplanned hospitalizations, and the added expense of new medications.

All of these things - and a hundred other, smaller problems - have caused this little family to have to dip into their “emergency” fund – money that otherwise might help pay for the trip.

A little help, a little hope for a special little boy

Josh’s Nana received news they were got approved to participate on March 5th, upon which she notified Tomeka. However, due to muliple complications from the  surgery, Tomeka was not able to act as quickly, as  she would have liked.

What a surprise! Tomeka didn’t even realize Nana had applied.

Now that the good news is out, Josh needs a little help and a little hope from you. Unbelievably, Tomeka found herself back in the emergency room the day she found out!

Where do heroes come from?

As friends of Tomeka’s, we’ve put together this campaign to raise money so they can fly to Washington, DC, and attend this once-in-a-lifetime event. Next year Josh will turn 14 years old. The maximum age to participate is 13 years .

Josh will never have this opportunity again, and it’s happening in less than one week.

So, where do heroes come from?

Heroes  live inside people like you! People with hearts curved outwardly — hearts that change the world with one tiny act of kindness at a time. Unleash your inner hero.

Won’t you help fund this trip for Josh, Tomeka, and Nana?

We appreciate any amount you can give.

We also understand completely if you are unable to donate money. WE GOT YOU COVERED. Would you mind taking a few minutes to share Josh's GoFundMe Link: http://www.gofundme.com/ jntodcforeaster via your social media platforms with the hashtag #TeamJosh #sendaspecialboytoDC #WhiteHouse #EasterEggRoll #GimmeFive.
