Studying in Guinea

Donation protected
Salut!

I am going back to West Africa in December/January and am taking advantage of the trip by spending time studying with Guinean Master Dancer/Drummer Moustapha Bangoura. My plan is to fly from Senegal to Guinea and to study for four weeks with Ballets African or Ballet Djoliba, and artists of Ballet Bagatae - Moustapha's dance company.

I've already purchased my ticket but need to raise at least $2000 more to take the classes with Mr. Bangoura and cover other expenses! I leave New York December 18th and will Return from Guinea February 2nd. The plan is to spend two weeks in Senegal with Nine Steps Away To Africa (Troy shop owner) Badara Diagne and others (paid for already). From Senegal I will fly to Guinea to spend time studying dance and drum with artists from Guinea and Senegal.

This trip will really help me become a better educator, artist, student, and leader by expanding my knowledge and experience in West African culture and customs. The music is just one portion of myself that shapes the work I am so passionate about sharing.

Since my first time in Senegal as an undergraduate  in 2011 much of my work has been around African Studies. I secured the 2013 Gretchen Walsh Book Donation Award and donated over 400 books, tables and chairs, a computer to the Niombato Library.  Been a poster presenter in the 2016 'Innovation, Transformation, and Sustainable Futures in Africa Conference' with the African Studies Association, American Anthropological Association, and WARA.

My plan is to document and share this experience with as many people as possible during and after the trip.

If you are subscribed to my newsletter you may already be familiar with my style of production and email newsletters. I hope it is something you enjoy! I also hope to get much more pictures, video, and stories from these two countries.

If you can take the time to donate any amount to help me get to my goal before November 15th (registration deadline) it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time and support.
