Hi! My name is Rebecca. My husband, Sterling Everidge and I have five beautiful boys. We are a loving family... doing everything that families do until the day my husband was injuried.
My husband Sterling, is deaf. His sole means of communication was by using sign language. His injury has stymied is way of communicating with me and his sons. Now, he has to mouth his words for us to communicate. He also was our sole provider. His injury makes him unable to provide for us even with the basic necessities that are needed for me to be able to run our household.
On Sept. 13, 2014, my husband and I attended a party for his sister. While at this party, a guy that also attended, stepped outside. Sterling and I decided to say our goodbyes when the guy returned stating, "move out the way!" They got a gun! As my husband is deaf, he did not hear this. As the man passed my husband, he was shot in the neck by a stray bullet, now becoming a quadreplegic. Life, as we know it has changed.
My husband worked with my brother towing inoperable cars to the scrap and junk yards. He always made sure that his family had EVERYTHING that we needed. Now, he can't even provide for us the way he's accustomed to doing as he is immobile.
My husband has been inside since his accident. Our house doesn't have a ramp or is it handicap accessible. I'm here for my husband mentally and physically. He is my world! We love each other to death. It hurts me to see him hurting because he can't physcally do anything for himself or his family. I had to sell his truck that he used for towing just to make ends meet. As of today's date, I cannot seek employment as I am providing 24hr care for my husband, at the same time trying to keep our household in tact, while also raising five growing boys.
