We are encouraged to start this fund by those who have expressed their willingness to help during our grief and tragic loss. We are passionate about bringing the truth to light for our beloved brother. Darius, died while in police custody at the Caddo County Jail in Anadarko, OK under suspicious circumstances.
He was incarcerated on Friday, April 1, 2016 for misdemeanor warrants dating back nearly two decades. These warrants should have already been cleared. Darius passed away while being "restrained" by jailers on the evening of Monday, April 4, 2016. He was 41 years old.
Within a day's time of family being notified of his death, officials swayed from being seemingly forthcoming with providing information to family to behaving in a secretive and uncooperative manor. An internal investigation is now underway by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations. An autopsy was preformed by the medical examiner within 24 hours. Yet now, four days later, his body is still "on hold" and not being released to family. The medical examiner is also refusing family their right to identify Darius' body.
There are numerous inconsistencies which led to this criminal investigation including but not limited to; the police report, official's statements, eye witness accounts, and photographs/video.
Darius leaves behind to grieve for him; his children who are devestated by their father's death and relied on his support, five siblings who are heartbroken to lose their beloved brother, and a host of family and friends outraged by his untimely and unjust death. All are determined to be a voice for Darius and to bring him justice.
We are raising money to cover travel expenses to and from California to Oklahoma during this phase of our journey, legal representation, an independent autopsy, funeral costs, and to bring Darius home to Long Beach, CA where he will be laid to rest.
