Cody Mitchell Hughes is a 23 year old young man from Ariton, AL.  He graduated from Ariton High School and received his Airframe and Power Plant License graduating in 2011 from Ozark Aviation College in Ozark, AL.  He is self  employed owning and operating his own automotive parts store and repair shop, Hughes Bros Auto Parts and Service, in Ariton, AL.

Around age 16, Cody began to experience unexplained neck and back pain.  Having not received a specific injury, the pain was thought to be a myriad of things from growing pains to aches and pains associated with athletics of which he loved and was very involved since a small child.  He opted out of playing football his senior year due to the pain but pressed thru playing baseball his final year in high school.  There were various doctor visits with no answers.  The pain progressively spread throughout his body.  As time passed, Cody began to experience multiple gastro-intestinal issues.  He became increasingly forgetful and had difficulty concentrating.  Tests still resulted in no answers and the pain continued to spread and intensify.  Cody began to have episodes of fatigue accompanying the nausea and inability to eat most of the time with the constant pain which progressed into the hips, knees, toes, wrists and jaw.  He finds a small measure of relief from the stiffness of his joints in extremely hot showers.  He constantly twists his neck and back with terrible creaking and cracking seeking relief from the pain.  Doctor visits still produce “can’t find anything wrong” conclusions.

As time progresses, pain leaves Cody unable to sleep well.  He begins to experience numbness at times in his extremities, cramps that migrate through his body, swollen glands, extremity tremors, soreness in his ribs, heart palpitations, difficulty taking deep breaths, difficulty with speech and difficulty eating.  Episodes of exhaustion leave him bedbound for days at the time, sweats with chills, mood swings and many more problems.  Depression looms as the continued reports are unable to identify the problem.  All the while he works dedicatedly to complete college while working full time and then to be a success at the opportunity to own his own business.

Early 2014 there is finally an answer to all the symptoms. A blood test results positive for Lyme Infection/Disease.  Cody is a lover of the outdoors and avid hunter and fisherman.  Having been blessed to live in a rural part of the country, outdoor life is common place as is the occasional tick bite.  Who knew it could pose a problem other than the loss of a little blood much less a multi-systemic disease.  More tests revealed Cody’s adrenal glands where no longer producing Cortisol, the hormone necessary to produce energy for organs to function properly and he had developed many food sensitivities causing the constant vomiting and diarrhea.  The Lyme Disease also bombarded his body with multiple bacterial and viral co-infections.

If the intense, constant pain and subsequent other issues weren’t enough, Cody was told that although the blood test results were positive for Lyme infection, it was a false positive due to the inability for Lyme Disease to be contracted in the southern United States.  He hit many walls seeking medical attention in Alabama.  His Chiropratic Physician recognized Cody’s failing health attributed to Lyme Infection and quickly went to work locating a clinic in Oklahoma treating Lyme patients with success through traditional and natural medicine.

In early May of this year, Cody and his mom headed to Tulsa on the road to health and wholeness.  Cody would need treatment to build up his immune system before efforts to eradicate the infections could begin.  Cody left his business in the hands of family members who rallied together to keep a young man’s dreams alive.  In June, while Cody was in OK, his great uncle, whom he purchased the business from and his Aunt who was managing the store front both suffered strokes forcing Cody to close his business while he continued treatment.  Cody returned to Alabama in August reopening his business and attempting to work and recover making frequent trips to Oklahoma.  Although his body is responding to treatments, he continues to have periods of complete exhaustion and is unable to gain or maintain weight...the ole one step forward two steps back syndrome.  He is so determined to have a successful business that the toll proves too much for his body. Tests indicate his body has begun to respond positively to the treatments so his Physicians have agreed that treatment on a more consistant level will expidite the healing process.  The decision was made Cody would return to Tulsa, OK so the treatments can continue on a regular basis and healing can manifest at a quicker pace. He leaves his business behind again in the hands of family in the pursuit of not just healing but wholeness.

Because Cody was forced to seek medical treatment outside the state of Alabama, there is no provision for insurance to cover his treatments.  He incurs an average of $880 per week for treatments in addition to prescription medications and living expenses.  Because Cody went untreated for so many years, the time frame for complete healing could be lengthly.  Cody and his family believe Jesus is the Great Physician and know God has a bright future planned for Cody.  Hopefully his story will bring light to the growing epidemic of Lyme Disease in our southern United States.

Your gifts of love toward this young man will go directly toward payment of his medical expenses.  Cody and his family also appreciate your prayers.   Please share Cody's story so awareness of Lyme Disease can be brought to light.  You may help someone looking for answers to their own health.   May the Lord generously bless the seeds you sow toward his healing.
