KALILOA ʻOHANA

Donation protected
Officers are constantly being exposed in a negative light and rarely ever recognized for good deeds because they're just "doing their jobs." Most officers shy away from any form of publicity anyway because it goes against everything they believe in. Their pono choices and daily actions should speak for itself and stand alone. Decisions are made purely for themselves, their ʻohana, their brothers + sisters in blue, and ultimately what they feel will better our community. Sadly, spotlight is being shed on Officer Bronson K. Kaliloa because of what happened when he was doing his job.

---

At approximately 9:30pm on Tuesday July 17th, Officer Kaliloa conducted a high risk motor vehicle stop of a wanted subject. As the officers approached the vehicle, the wanted subject exited the vehicle and opened fire, striking Officer Kaliloa in the neck, abdomen, and leg. Kaliloa was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m.  The subject remains at large.

UPDATE: On July 20th at about 2:45 pm, officers stopped an SUV at an established checkpoint in the South Point area, Kaʻū district. Members of the Department’s Special Response Team, (SRT), were conducting checks within the vehicle when the wanted suspect, Justin Waiki opened fire wounding an officer. Officers present returned fire resulting in the death of Waiki.

This fund was not created by his immediate or extended family. It was created by a life-long resident of the Puna district and member of the Puna Patrol ʻohana. I feel that it's part of my kuleana to not only acknowledge his service and his beautiful family he abruptly left behind, but to create an opportunity for our community to show up for the Kaliloa ʻohana. Funds will be given directly to the wife and 3 young children of Officer Kaliloa.

A man of the community deserves to be taken care of by the community.
