Thank you all for taking an interest in this cause and for clicking through to this description - whatever is raised from this crowdfunding will all be going towards directly impacting the lives of adults and children struggling with mental health problems in Sri Lanka; may be caused by displacement  and loss due to natural disasters and/or 25 years of Civil War between Tamil and Sinhalese groups in the country. It is also important to recognise that, whilst these external factors play an important role in acquired mental health conditions, the work that I will be taking part in aims to alleviate mental health prejudice and allow for the idea that mental health problems can be acquired through stress and external factors but they can also be congenital and innate. In short, this money will go towards providing therapy to those that need it and wouldn't otherwise be able to receive it, providing high quality teaching facilities and education to children and young adults, providing support for those assimilating back into a community setting after spending time in a psychiatric facility and supporting those at the acute onset of a psychological episode, which is often very intimidating and dangerous for the individual and their loved ones if the right support is not provided.

So, as many of you may know - my name is Katherine, I'm 22, a general well-to-do person and a recent Psychology graduate from Lancaster University.

That's me and Augustus ^^

About two days ago, on the 6th of July 2015, I was ecstatic because I had been offered the opportunity to work and train as a mental health professional in Nawala, Sri Lanka. The role involves providing regular creative therapy to those that have little opportunity to receive this kind of treatment otherwise, teaching English and other classroom subjects to children and young adults, providing psychological support to young people held in detention centres whose mental health needs may have been overlooked, supporting those leaving detention centres and psychiatric facilities so they can assimilate back into the community successfully. It's incredibly exciting to know that I could use my skills in mental health management and compassion to support the transformation of whole communities.

When all is said and done, the money raised here will not go towards my flights, food or any of my own expenses as that's not what this is about. Your money will go towards hands-on treatment for those suffering from a huge range of mental health disorders, equipment for local facilities and psychiatric training for myself and others whose aims are to create a few smiles and build a long term framework of managing and understanding mental health problems. With your help, this can totally happen and, to anyone who has ever suffered from a psychiatric episode or a long-standing mental health problem, you know how important changing attitudes in the surrounding community is to people's health and how treatment can often be the difference between life and death in many cases.

Much love to you all, ඉස්තුති (thank you)

P.S. Give a quid, go ooooooon.
