The Steel City Warriors are a Pro Hockey Team in the "single A" Federal Hockey League. We are based in Belle Vernon, PA. We came into this current situation not only WAY behind the eight ball, but with difficulties we could not have foreseen.
Almost a month into the league's season, I arrived when a previous owner bailed on his team, leaving the league one team short. Their abrupt departure a few weeks into the season left several players homeless. To rectify the problem, we rented hotel rooms for them until I could get myself from FL to PA and see what the situation was.
The Warriors have faced everything from bus break downs to struggles for local support, and from broken promises to major injuries. While all teams face problems, the majority of ours stem from the fact that we tried to do in one week what typically takes eleven months to accomplish. What I had thought was going to be a a short term solution, housing twenty people in a hotel, has proved to be a more permanent one. Needless to say, financially our housing predicament has crippled our entire operation.
I am much more comfortable helping others in need then being the one who is asking. I haven't answered others' pleas for help looking for anything in return. Now, though, I have no choice but to humbly ask for your help. I am asking not for myself, but on behalf of the boys who have given all that they have to fulfill their dreams of playing professional hockey.
