Hi, I'm Morgan, and I'm a Candidate for Mr. Thunder at Summit High School. Mr. Thunder is a pageant competition where 10 senior boys compete for the title "Mr. Thunder" with talents, question portions, and silly dances. More important than the competition, however, is the inspirational girl behind it: Kirabella L.
"Kirabella is about the cutest little 7 year old around and very knowledgeable about dinosaurs! Her condition is probably one of the most heartbreaking stories as well. After a high fever for several days, she was originally diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection, but within 30 minutes after taking antibiotics, she began seizing and had lost mental clarity, forgetting where she was and who her mom was.
Upon further testing, it showed that her blood was filled with Spirochetes. They have a tremendous impact on our lives. Both syphilis and Lyme disease are caused by these bacteria. After two spinal taps, the blood bacteria was found in her spine as well. It was determined that she had contracted this bacteria from a soft tick and has been diagnosed with Tick-borne Relapsing Fever.
Relapsing fever is characterized by episodes of fever lasting several days, followed by an interval without fever, followed by another episode of fever. Along with fever, patients may experience generalized body aches, muscle pain, joint pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, dry cough, light sensitivity, rash, neck pain, eye pain, confusion, and dizziness.
Her case is extremely rare and never seen in a child before.
Now, her case is being overseen by the Head of Pediatrics from Yale University and they are still working on a set plan to attack this bacteria as it can cause life long complications. She now has at home IV therapy and must do treatment every six hours.
Although Kirabella’s life has taken a serious 180, she is very brave and full of happiness. She enjoys art and playing her electric guitar. She also loves her leopard gecko, pearl.
Kirabella will be adopted as a Sparrow to Summit High School in Bend. Students will work hard to raise money for Kirabella through sponsored community service and fundraising projects. "
I hope you will consider joining me, the rest of the thunder boys, and the entire Summit community in our efforts to help her and family by making a donation Kirabella's Sparrow fund.
