Teri's Heroic Journey

Teri’s Heroic Story: Teri Roberts is a daughter, wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend to many. She has lived in Valley, Nebraska most of her life and has always made her family, friends and community a priority. Teri married Kent Roberts and together they raised two children, Andrea and Ryan who gave them 5 beautiful grandchildren. Teri served on the school board, attended her children’s games and worked to help take care of her family. She’s fun, happy, kind hearted and her family means everything to her. When Teri’s daughter was murdered in 2013, it was a devastating and indescrib-able pain. However, Teri quit her job to take care of her daughter’s three kids during the day. She knew this was what needed to be done, so she did it. Sadly, in early December 2014, Teri began feeling ill thinking she may have had the flu. Three days later Teri woke up and could not breathe. Upon arriving at the ER she was admitted to ICU, without a known cause of her illness. Within 24 hours Teri slipped into unconsciousness and tested positive for Group A Streptococcus and Toxic Shock Syndrome. We were told she had a 50/50 chance to live.As days went by, Teri’s condition declined as liver and kidneys shut down. She was given medication directed towards saving her main organs. The toxins were escaping her body through blisters that popped up all over her body. Teri was put on a ventilator and dialysis was started. At this point Teri’s chance for survival had dropped to a mere 30 percent. On Dec 21, the doctors were convinced that there was no hope and delivered the news to her friends and family that we would lose our beloved Teri. With so many prayers said by so many people, a miracle occurred on December 22. Teri woke up and was ready to fight for her life!Slowly but with amazing determination, Teri is working her way back. Teri has gone from feeding thru IV’s to eating small bites of hamburger which helped increase her strength. She’s regained liver and kidney function and her body has continued to heal. Even so, Teri’s hands and feet could not sustain the damage and sadly on January 10 both Teri’s hands were amputated at the wrist and both of her feet were taken all the way up to eight inches below her knees. Teri’s response to this was, “I’m just letting the other people finally catch up to me!” Her strength, determination and zest for life are simply inspiring. Teri has a long road ahead of her, yet her spirit is awesome! When you walk into her hospital room you’re greeted with a huge smile. She believes that everything happens for a reason and we just don’t know what it is yet. Teri is now in physical therapy and will soon head to rehab and will be fitted for her prosthetics. All of this comes with a great deal of pain, suffering, expense and stress. Our goal is to support her through this journey and to ease the financial burden. Please consider a donation.
