We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Meeting Waters YMCA for the donation of the building to our non-profit organization. Without there generosity and interest in the community this would not be possible. The BFFMCPP is underway : the Meeting Water YMCA/ Former Methodist Church will be saved!!!! In the winter of 2014, it was announced that Meeting Waters YMCA, 66 Atkinson Street was moving and looking into options of what to do with the building. A group of concerned citizens, Michael Bruno, Diana Jones, Jon Midura and Gail Golec started a non-profit in order to save and preserve/restore the struct...ure ( the oldest existing church structure in Bellows Falls Village ca. 1835 ). The ultimate goal of the non-profit is to make the building into a community center available for exhibitions, receptions and classes at a reasonable cost, with all proceeds going towards the up keep of the building. All restoration work will aim to preserve the buildings historic character while making it functional for events. This will be a space for the community, maintained by the community. We will be looking for volunteers for cleaning and painting projects come spring but we will also need help via fundraising. Beginning today, we need to start securing funds to cover the immediate costs associated with filing the nonprofit LLC with the IRS and maintaining insurance on the property approximately $1700.00 More significant fundraising will begin in the spring to address the desperate need for a new roof on the south side of the steeple, which is currently covered with a tarp.
