knot too shabby MONROVIA

Donation protected
Nearly eight years ago, I began an adventure to share my love of refinished furniture, vintage home decor and the beauty of salvaging otherwise damaged "trash" as art and functional statement pieces in the home. As my in-home business grew, I said a prayer and took a huge leap of faith to open a brick and mortar store in 2011; knot too shabby in the Glendora Village.

There was one significant area that I lacked in the business and that was the means to share my love of refinishing through the ability to teach people how to turn their neglected and worn pieces of furniture into statement pieces that could then be brought into their homes. As fortune had it, just a few months after I opened knot too shabby, I was given the privelage of becoming a stockist for Chalk Paint® decorative paints by Annie Sloan. And, again just six months after that I was one of the first retailers to carry and launch Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint. Both of which are companies that I value dearly and who developed products that I love to use and share with my community.

Painting is my passion! Sharing it with others has become nothing short of an obsession. To see eyes opened and furniture transformed during our interactive workshops is intoxicating! I can't get enough of watching the transformation that  the furniture goes through, and seeing the utter delight in the eyes of  people who have learned  to accomplished so much turning their "trash" into a treasure.

We are a green movement that seeks to salvage and recycle with purpose. We provide the tools and education to make it possible for ANYONE to tackle a refinishing project such as turning a dilapidated fence board into photgraphic art, using a dusty old book for a decorative wreath ... you get the idea! And we involve our community in our efforts. In the past four years, we've participated in Arts and Science days at the elementary schools, Career Days at the local middle schools...we've donated private painting workshops to numerous local non-profit organizations (nearly $10,000 in workshop space in 2013 alone) and we donate money to Pomona Hope, an after school program that impacts at-risk youth.

It is our desire that by opening a knot too shabby store in MONROVIA, that we can spread the love of refinishing furniture further west to audiences of ALL AGES! But, opening a new store is an expensive venture. The tenant improvements require knocking down walls, rewiring electrical,  patching drywall and removing flooring...the list is endless and costs are extensive. We want  our new space to offer as much inspiration as our products do.

The plans for our new shop include an expanded work space  that will allow for twice as many workshop participants as our Glendora store. We will have  space enough for kids classes, birthday parties, image transfer workshops and our ever so popular painting workshops. And, of course we will still have all of our best selling products to sell and a team of painting experts to walk you through the process.

If you had told me five short years ago that I would be on this adventure I wouldn't have believed you. I wouldn't have thought it possible to be a source of inspiration and encouragement to so many people from so many walks of life. At the end of the day, that is what I strive to do: to help others find contentment in what they have, joy in the imperfections of their belongings and to discover their ability to embrace the flaws of a piece loved throughout time. And, if they choose, to take home one of my lovingly refinished pieces of furniture, I am ever thankful that I can continue to feed my own passion through painting!

You can help us to feed our passion!  We are more than grateful for any small amount that is donated to help us offset the cost of tenant improvements for our new aventure!

Plus, for every $10 donated, you will be entered into a drawing for one of our three Chalk Paint® decorative paint gift baskets valued at $550 each. There is no limit to the number of entries!

Thank-you for your encouragement and support.
