Kodiak is DeafBlind and has CHARGE Syndrome. He was struggling to communicate and then lost all his vision. He needs ongoing help to access communication and learn Braille and tactile ASL. We are trying to learn all we can to take care of his needs. We took him to Boston MA to the Perkins School for the Blind for schooling assessments. The goal is to help him to learn to communicate.
He also has ongoing needs and some safety modifications and upgrades done to our home to keep him safe. Being DeafBlind he is not aware of the danger of leaving the house. We need to continuely make adjustments to make his environment safe. This includes a monitoring system for him both at home and away from home. As well as safety measures installed to in home injuries.
He also needs upgrades to his educational systems to help him learn to communicate. As well as sensory things and things to do while at home to prevent boredom and assist in making his world bigger and keep him out of trouble.
We are overwhelmed by the loving support that people have shown the past 15 years. This site proves to me that people care and it is hard for me to put into words how much the support means to me and our extended family.
Thank you.
PS: TOP Photo was before he lost his eyes! BELOW: Eyes are shrinking and it's a painful process.
