Bring our Diaspora Film to Estonia
Donation protected
Our request for support is built around a country with a cultured population less than half the size of Toronto and a history that goes back before Viking times yet ironically it will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary of Independence in 2018.
We’re talking about Estonia, the birthplace of “Skype”, and the story of the refugees who fled in 1944 as Soviet forces were occupying the country. Our parents were part of that group and they told us stories similar to those in the documentary “Vabaduse mustrid” / “Keepers of the Loom”. You can check out our new Estonian trailer at https://vimeo.com/136412564
or the International English trailer at https://vimeo.com/137859757
Now we have a unique opportunity to bring this Diaspora story home to the land our parents fled and provide some insights into how the culture was kept alive in exile. We have been working with an art cinema in Tartu, to set up Estonian screenings. The premiere will be in Tallinn, on October 1st. Please check our website http://www.keepersoftheloom.com
for updates or follow us on FB (Vabaduse mustrid, Keepers ofthe Loom)
To make this feature length film, we’ve used all of our resources, and more and we need your support to get the film to Estonia.
Here’s where the support will go:
$5500
Editing to finish the subtitled Estonian version and the “international version”, which will be fully English and fully Estonian.
500 Euros (x 2 for 2 people)
Honoraria to those who developed the curriculum guide to go with the film that we will pilot in schools in Estonia
$7585 (for 2 to 3 people dependant on fundraising)
Travel costs to Estonia to support the release of the film and strengthen our local contacts, with whom we are working on building a travelling exhibit to tour with the film to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Independence and make Estonia’s rich cultural heritage more known to the rest of the world.
Developing ties in the other Baltic countries.
If we raise enough funds, we will take the film to Stockholm $858 and Riga .
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or would like more details through our website http://www.keepersoftheloom.com
The film Keepers of the Loom is ” is a Bronze Remi Winner - 48th Worldfest - Houston International Film Festival – 2015 and has won Award of Merit at both Accolade and IndieFest. Now it’s time to bring our story home and you are invited to join the adventure.
So please share this campaign and encourage your friends and family to become part of the 2015 campaign to bring the Estonian Diaspora story home.
