This project would be an addition to our cultural and traditional musical identity. The main goal is to record an album. The matter in which this will be executed is what makes it a special project.
We use traditional genres as core aspects and combine them with modern sounds. This is done by using primary parts of each genre that fits together and the experimentation with rhythm, harmony, orchestration and sound design. Creating new sub-genres with diversity in rhythm and colour. Genres we experiment with: Dansa, Wals, Tambu, Tumba, Seu, Soca, Hip Hop, Jazz, Classical music, Samba, Afoxe, Candomble rhythm, Calypso, Zoukous.
The final product will be a crossover between different genres and constellations with traditional and modern instruments using various musical aspects to create a musically enriched traditional song never heard before.
This album will be recorded at WGBH Studios in Cambridge, Berklee college of music in Boston and Codarts in Rotterdam. These studios are professionally equipped for the recording of any constellation, from a rhythm section up to an orchestra, which both will be recorded on this album. However, we already have this covered and pre-planned the whole trip.
The money collected through this crowdfunding campaign will be used to cover the cost of recording engineers, session musicians (including their trip) the documenting of the whole process and the distribution of the production.
This project will directly benefit our musical tradition and culture by preserving its core aspect by innovating the sound. Moreover, this will be beneficial to the youth and up and coming artists of the Antilles, as inspiration to experiment more with our own traditional and cultural sounds.
Also, the well-known segregation between musicians, the ones that studied music at an academic level and the self-taught musicians, will be tackled. We are playing the music of all styles and using all types of musicians, academics and self-taught. At the end of the day, it is all about the music. We need to come together and put our differences aside and make more meaningful music.
