Trevor's Top Surgery Fund
Beschermde donatie
First things first thank you for taking interest in my fundraiser, and for donating your time to learn a little about me, and why your donation means so much.
For those who don't know me my name is Trevor Rubin. I am a 24 year old transgender male living in Massachusetts. That title has carried since I was 19 years old, when I finally came out to my friends and family as an FTM (Female to Male). It has been a bumpy road to accepting who I truly am, but now I see myself as a unique individual, and not a label. I have been working as a Sterile Processing Technician at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, and the peers I keep close accept me with no strings attached. The most uncomfortable thing in my day is the mens locker room because I have had remarks about my binder and why I wear it. I have changed in bathrooms to avoid that issue and it works for me. My family needed time to realize I was not in a phase when I came out, but the new relationship I have formed has been priceless. I feel lucky and blessed to have people who support me in my life. It is hard to not feel alone sometimes, but I have come to realize the support I have received in turn made me stronger and able to stand on my own. Since I work at a hospital, I have connections to some of the best surgeons on the north shore, and have talked to a few about the prospects of top surgery. They have been amazing, giving me discounted rates and mentorship to boot. However my health insurance does not cover the cost of top surgery that I feel I deserve. My story is not uncommon in the transgender world, but I will make my mark one way or the other because I think i'm worth it . I have plans to return to school which will require me to take out loans for college, and I find myself torn between saving for surgery and going back to school to further my education.
I feel out of place asking others for a donation because this is not natural for me, but I promise anything you can give will be deeply appreciated. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, pick my brain, or ask for advice if you yourself are going through something similar. I plan on keeping you all updated from soup to nuts (which who needs 'em!) Thank you and be well!
