My dearest and wonderful friend LaTonia Barto is fighting Leiomyosarcoma, also known as LMS, a very rare form of cancer that affects the soft tissue and spreads through the blood.
This 25,000 goal is to pay for an operation where they will remove one of the tumors to test all treatments that exist to find one that works. After finding the correct treatment they can begin to save her life.

LaTonia and her high school sweetheart, Joey, got married and immediately began building their family. In 2004, after she gave birth to her loving little boy Gabriel, LaTonia began experiencing excruciating pain. After running tons of tests including exploratory surgery, they found nodules in her uterus. In 2009 the pain returned and the doctors told her she needed to have a full hysterectomy. Three days later, while trying to cope with losing the chance to mother the large family she had always dreamed of, a shocked doctor told her she had a very rare and aggressive type of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma.
Being she was so young, the diagnoses was much harder to understand, and more rare than most cases. Since most diagnosed are in the elder years. Over the last 7 years, LaTonia has undergone 4 abdominal surgeries and 3 lung surgeries, while also being treated with radiation and chemotherapy. She has taken part in experimental treatments all of which have failed. During her last chemo in the trial her tumors doubled in size and she became extremely ill including being hospitalized 7 times in the last 6 months, even spending Christmas Eve and Christmas day in the hospital.
LaTonia now has a sarcoma doctor at MD Anderson that oversees her care with a local doctor and has monthly visits to Houston. MD Anderson is in Houston is 238 miles away from her family and is a great financial strain.
Through all of her fighting she has been unable to work and her husband Joey is working himself to the bone. Life’s every day bills are piling up, with medical bills filling the mailbox.
LaTonia, Joey, and Gabriel need our help so that they can spend each moment with each other, creating lasting memories to cherish forever. The time she has right now is the most important because the treatments are truly just to extend her life and give her as much time as possible with her family.
