City of LaFayette Fire Engine
Donation protected
The City of LaFayette purchased our very own American LaFrance Type 40 fire engine in February 1926 for a cost of $11,260.
The fire engine that was state of the art upon is purchase is chain driven and is powered by the original 75hp four cylinder engine. #5534 is very rare, as she is 88 years old, and only 120 American LaFrance Type 40 Trip's were ever built.
The city has owned the fire engine for the last 88 years. While it is not currently running, it is nearly 100% original and has certainly earned a restoration! While we can't afford a full restoration at this time, we need your help to let our classic fire engine ride again!
It needs some mechanical work, new tires, rebuilding of the original wooden spoke wheels and more to make it safely driveable again.
We are proud of our heritage, & especially proud that our very own #5534 has stayed here where its career began. Please help us to get her driving again!
