LasFotosProject: Guatemala Wheatpasting
Hello friends and supporters. I am the lead mentor of Las Fotos Project: Guatemala.
We are raising funds to bring the amazing art of wheatpasting to our students from San Jorge, Guatemala. Having in their previous workshop been exposed to traditional gallery exhibitions, we would like to engage our students in a new form of expression, and allow them to explore the power of public art.
Check out this video of some Las Fotos Projects students from L.A. doing a wheatpasting project. This is what we want to bring here to Guatemala!
The girls have already taken portraits of some of the beautiful 'ancianas' of their community. We want to take these portraits, turn them into Inside-Out style large format black-and-white prints, and take to the streets of Panajachel to wheatpaste the portraits on a heavily trafficked street.
We imagine this exercise in art will have a profound impact on the young photographers here, as they explore expression and make a statement about the importance of the 'ancianas' in their community and culture.
Plus, the street exhibition will help draw attention and support to Mayan Families' Elderly Feeding Program in San Jorge, which provides a nutritious lunch 5 days a week to the town's elderly residents.
*Each 24"x36" portrait will cost $10 to print. Please consider a donation to cover the cost of one print, or more if you're able. ANY amount helps!
We will be documenting the project and producing a video of the day to share with you, our supporters. You will be personally recognized at the close of the video.
Thank you for helping us Make Art - Make A Difference!
