On Saturday, December 6th, 2014, my cousins Danielle, James, and Danielle's new born baby, Amai, were hit by a drunk driver at the San Juan and Truxel intersection. Danielle and James were both seriously injured in the accident, James having a collapsed lung and six broken ribs, and Danielle with extensive injuries, including internal bleeding. Amai, who was eight days old at the time of the incident was miraculously physically unharmed, but is now suffering from not being able to see his mother since the time of the accident. As of now, Danielle will not even be able to hold her precious new baby for some time. She has suffered a broken pelvis, a lacerated liver, and her spine is damaged in multiple places. After all the surgeries are complete she will be in a "halo" brace. She has now lost her car, her ability to care for herself or baby, and will not be able to work for quite a while. James will also be out of work for recovery and income will be scarce for the household. Our family alone cannot provide the financial support Danielle, her new baby, and James will need but if every one works together we can give what we can and make things work out. We are trying to collect money for Danielle's rent, bills, medical bills, baby needs, food, and whatever other expenses that have occurred. Please let this be a lesson and a reminder, it's never okay to drink and drive, it's just not worth your life or anyone else's. Danielle faces a long road back to recovery but with many prayers she will pull through this. Even if you don't donate, please keep Danielle in your thoughts and in your prayers. The holidays are near, keep your loved ones close. We almost lost our 8 day old new addition in a six car pile up, you never know whats coming next.
