Let There Be Light is making its NYC Premiere at The Hudson Guild Theater as part of the NY Summerfest Competition!

Following a successful workshop at The University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music in  2016, Let There Be Light's opening and closing numbers, "Illuminate the Night" and "United" were chosen to be featured in NYMF's (New York Musical Festival) 2017 United We Stand Concert at Green Room 42.

Writer and Director, Brianna Barnes, is now raising money to fund a fully staged production in New York City in July of 2018 at The Hudson Guild Theater as part of the NY Summerfest Competition

Performance Dates:

July 31st @ 6:15 PM
August 4th @ 8:30  PM
August 5th @ 1:00 PM

Let There Be Light is a folk-rock musical in the vignette style with book and score written by Brianna Barnes. Based on real life interviews, Let There Be Light brings the true stories of experiences, discoveries, and problems various kinds of people have with religion—specifically Jesus and Christianity—to life on stage. Through each character’s story, the audience experiences a messy and broken, but colorful and beautiful mosaic. It doesn’t have all the answers, but instead focuses on the real and relevant struggles and questions about God, spirituality, and Christianity in 2018.

"It’s rare to have an overtly Christian production that isn’t over the top, excessively preachy, or worse yet, terribly mediocre... Brianna Barnes’s new work, LET THERE BE LIGHT, though, is none of the above. In fact, its possible that this new theatrical experience might be the best evangelical tool I’ve ever come across... Barnes’s acoustic sensibilities as a songwriter are right in line with contemporary music; her theatrical training helps, too. But the most powerful thing for me was Barnes herself and her direct, frank discussion of what’s wrong with Christianity in 2016...Its the most relevant, sincere and moving thing I’ve heard in a church in a very long time." - Kirk Sheppard, The Sappy Critic
