Letting Go Garden
Donation protected
The beautiful and prolific Letting Go Garden has provided fresh organic vegetables and puja flowers to the Mountain of Attention Sanctuary for the past 7 years. InitiaIly developed in 2008 by Amos Schieber and Jeff Hughes (who farmed together for 15 years at Adi Da's Naitauba Island Hermitage in Fiji, growing food for everyone), the garden has been managed and primarily served by Amos - with the hands-on assistance of his partner, Lynnzee Elze (my mother).
Many other devotees have served periodically throughout the years: Mark Harris, Jeff Hughes, Peter Harvey-Wright, Judy Wendling, Michele Krueger, Jill Sanna, and Windsor Riley to name some. The garden sits at the edge of the Man of Radical Understanding horse pastures and is watered primarily from the pumphouse there.
All labor, equipment, tools, supplies - everything the garden has needed and produces has always been given as service to the Mountain of Attention Sanctuary and saves thousands of dollars annually on food and flower costs.
Any garden surplus was and will continue to be given to needy Lake County devotees and sold through the local devotee-owned food delivery service Green Gorrilla.
One harvest of marigolds - done twice a week.
Gorgeous zinnias for cut flower arrangements.
Gigantic sweet beets and luscious tomatoes!
Other crops grown: corn, peppers, collards, kale, lettuces and other greens, herbs, summer and winter squashes, melons, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, and cucumbers...an amazing bounty!
And miraculously the Valley Fire spared all the plants that are currently at the peak of harvest season! but it decimated everything surrounding that green and flowered oasis: the water pipes and irrigation lines, protective fencing, the tractor, all tools/supplies, and most sadly - our two beehives full of happy garden bees.
Amos and Lynnzee would love to be able to save the plants and rebuild the garden to continue the service of providing food and puja flowers to the Sanctuary and devotees. The more self-sufficient we can be throughout this next period of rebuilding and regrowth the better!
Any donations or discounts or contacts for free supplies would be so gratefully received - the following items are needed and shown in order of priority:
fencing to keep out deer and rabbits: $1200
pipes, hoses and irrigation lines: $3700
tools, wheelbarrows, supplies: $ 750
tractor (we had bought a used one): $6000
row covers: $ 250
bee hives and equipment: $1100
greenhouse for starting plants
(we have never had this, but it would
greatly increase our production!): $6000
TOTAL: $19,000
Thank you so much for helping save and rebuild Letting Go Garden on behalf of Amos, Lynnzee, The Mountain of Attention Sanctuary residents and Adidam devotees.
With love, Olivia Spence (Lynnzee's daughter)
