Started a business on a shoestring.....And then!
Trying to start a business for anyone is difficult. Trying to start a business when you are limited on funds is even more trying. Starting a business when you are taking care of a family member who has health issues is even tougher still. That is the story behind John!
Here is the rest of the story.
John has been working cleaning carpet for many years. He has always worked for other companies. However, he went to work for one particular company where work conditions were horrendous. With a boss that liked to yell, scream, belittle, and oherwise make life miserable for employees, it was more than John could tolerate.
What drove him to start a business?
John is well known by carpet cleaners across the country. He often provides expertise to fellow carpet cleaners and expects nothing in return. Since he knows the cleaning business well, a number of carpet cleaners across the country encouraged him to start his own business. I (Ken Long) was one of those who encoruaged him to start a floor care company of his own so that he could make a living and get out from under the tyrant that he was working for with his employer.
Why is there a need for help?
As I mentioned earlier, John has always worked for others. He has also been taking care of his father. In fact, in the second week of February of 2015 his Father, who lives with him, is to have a knee surgery. On top of that, John has spent his start up money to purchase needed equipment, a used van, a trip to pick up a carpet cleaning machine to put in the van and all the various other expenses related to starting a business.
Murphy! You have heard of him. He often comes to visit at the worst possible time. Murphy's law states: If something can go wrong, it will, and usually at the worst time. In John's case, this is that story.
He started preparing his business. He got business cards, uniforms, a website, a van, tools, and other necessary items. The van has a water pump that has gone out and is in need of replacement. Cost, $500. Which is not bad if you have a steady income. However, he has spent every penny he had left getting started. With money now depleted, there is no way to do the things necessary to advertise and get jobs that will produce the income he needs!
Will he succeed?
Absolutely! With enough money to live on for a couple of months while he is out selling floor care, there is no doubt in my mind that this talented guy will do a lot of business. John has gone from unemployed carpet cleaner to business owner in just six weeks. He is beginning to talk to people about doing work for them, however, it will take a little time for referrals, advertising, and jobs to come toghether to produce a livable income.
How you can help!
Make a small donation. John has a desire to start his business debt free. It is a wise decision and he will succeed if enough people pitch in a small amount of money to help him over the hump! He is not asking for much. Twenty dollars from 500 people would put him in a place where he can continue to take care of his father and start his business. It will be amazing to see and fun to have a part in providing the microfunding he needs to start this business! Will you consider making a minimum of a $20 donation?
