Sammie's Emergency Vet Care
Donation protected
SAMMIE is currently at the Ottawa Carleton Veterinarian Emergency Hospital and his bills are up to $1500! Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue in Ottawa, ON urgently needs your help to cover these unexpected costs. Here is Sammie's Story:
SAMMIE was being fed outside for almost 6 months during the cold Ottawa winter in 2012 before he could be brought inside for assistance. Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue fully vetted and neutered him, and placed him in a foster home. He proved to be a shy boy with the sweetest eyes, who likes kind, patient people. One day, the landlord came to do some work in his foster home and carelessly left the door open, and SAMMIE got out. Many people looked for Sammie for months and posters were put up, but he was nowhere to be found.
Fast forward 1.5 years. A call was received from the Emergency Hospital that they had SAMMIE! They knew he was a Hungry and Homeless rescue cat because of his microchip! SAMMIE was being taken care by a kind woman who just thought he was a stray. She had been feeding him and housing him in an insulated cat house the entire time he was missing. A few nights ago she found him frozen to the fence in -30 deg C weather, with no idea how long he had been there. His back legs and tail were frozen. She brought him into the house to care for him but he could not hold his urine. She is on a limited income but she needed to help poor Sammie. She called a local rescue group to ask for assistance and that's when he was brought to the vet and it was discovered who he was.
Sammie is in poor shape but stable and being very sweet to the veterinary staff. He has had full blood work and urinalysis. He has a bladder infection and is severely dehydrated. He is receiving IV fluids and antibiotics for this, and is currently hospitalized at the Ottawa Carleton Veterinarian Emergency Hospital and will be transferred to the Rescue's vet Monday morning (Feb. 9 ). He is still having problems holding his urine and today it was discovered he is severely constipated, which could be also affecting his bladder. This requires X-ray, enemas and possible more extensive treatment. He is also being monitored for neurological damage. The bill is adding up and is in the range of $1500 and climbing right now.
Anything you can give to help sweet SAMMIE would be greatly appreciated. The Rescue cannot do it without your help!!
