City Heights San Diego Street Arch

Donation protected
City Heights, San Diego, California is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States with over 50 languages spoken in one zip code. With that, and its high immigrant and refugee population it is also one of the poorest neighborhoods.

Recently programs and projects to revitalize the downtown shopping areas with new art, facades, and street infrastructure improvements have made living in City Heights better for its many diverse citizens.

Prior to 1900, City Heights was known as East San Diego, and was autonomous from San Diego proper. In 1926 infrastructure demands on the city forced it to be annexed by the City of San Diego.

In San Diego, it has been customary for most if not all neighborhoods to be adorned with an arch or cable-hung neon neighborhood sign.

City Heights had a cable hung version from 1926-1954, and then was replaced with a newer version from 1954-1968. In 1968, the sign was removed due to structural issues and street widening. The sign was promised to be replaced, but never was.

Help the citizens of City Heights restore to its rightful glory a gateway arch that not only speaks to the multi-culturalism of City Heights but also to its history and continuity within the San Diego neighborhood system.

Money is being managed through a 501c.3 non-profit designation through the City Heights Town Council.
