Laura's Legacy

Laura, one of 12 children, was born with Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited, debilitating lung disease. For 18 1/2 years Laura lived with the daily struggle all CF children have...the ability to take a deep, lung filling breath.
Laura was a freshman at McKinney Boyd High School in 2012. That year Boyd students created "Laura's Legacy" and the McKinney, TX community honored Laura by raising $20,000 to futher CF research. Laura was so proud of the ability to spread awareness for CF.
In 2013, due the the severity of Laura's CF, it was decided that Laura would undergo a double lung transplant at the age of 16 1/2. July 15, 2013 Laura received her 2 new lungs! What a blessing! For a short period, she was able to experience what many of us take for granted... breathing.
Laura lived with her new lungs for about 1 year and 8 months. She went into the hospital January 3, 2015 with complications. After a courageous fight and unpresidented positive attitude, Laura was released to hospice care on February 18, 2015.
On February 19, 2015, at 6:20pm, Laura told her mom it was time to leave and help the Lord in heaven. She died peacefully with family nearby. Laura's family has remained by her side throughout this journey.
Her youngest brother and a nephew were also born with CF and Laura has always wanted a cure to be found for them. Laura may not be around to see a cure found, but she has always hoped and prayed for that day to come.
We are wanting to raise funds now to help support Laura's family with expenses related to her funeral and memorial service.
