Medical and trip expenses for surgery

Hello, I'm posting this on behalf of my mother-in-law, Karen. Thank you for taking time to read her story.
Last summer, I ended up spending over a month in the hospital. After a few different surgeries to fix my heart problems, including a double bypass, I thought that I would finally be on the mend. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was told that I developed blood clots in my lungs. They were hoping that they would dissipate, but unfortunately they have not. After rounds of tests and questions, I was finally approved for a complicated and risky surgery to have them removed. This is something that needs to be done, because not having it can’t be an option. I’m thrilled that there is even a possibility that I’ll make a full recovery and get to play with my grandchildren again. There’s a problem though. The surgery and recovery can only be done at the University of San Diego. That means, my husband, and I will have to fly from Kansas City to San Diego, spend around 4 weeks there for tests, surgery, and recovery, then fly back. I’m grateful for this opportunity, but there is no hospital lodging for family. Therefore, the flight, hotel fees, and food is all up to us to pay for. The cost of everything is out of the realm of possibility for us. My hope is that I’ll be able to raise enough money for everything by mid-April. That is when I am set for pre-testing. Thanks again for listening. Any help is greatly appreciated. Karen W.
