Why?
Firstly, the reason that I'm raising money for books and covers is because for five years, I was in a program for people with dyslexia and I really felt that the only reason I was able to pretty much overcome it is because of the motivation I got from my teachers, family, technologies, and programs. So, I definitely think that I was very fortunate to have had good surroundings, so I started this campaign to give to people who maybe don't have the correct resources to succeed.
Secondly, I'm contributing to the education in Haiti because they have had a very difficult time since a earthquake of magnitude 7.0 hit Haiti in 2010. The earthquake destroyed buildings, houses, and schools, and, unfortunately, they haven't been rebuilt since there isn't money to do that. Also, to add on to this, Haiti hasn't been able to technologically advance because of the earthquake and struggles it has been going through.
Thirdly, I believe that education is completely important and essiential for the success of anyone, and after having a good education, you will have much more knowledge and experiences about subjects that are fundamental to having a good future. In Haiti, the most important generation is the youngest because they have the potential to get a good education with things like books.
What?
In the 2016/17 campaign, I'm raising money so new books can be bought, for a different school than last time, in Haiti, and I'm raising books to take to Haiti next year.
Who?
I'm David Lechter and I'm thirteen years old. In this campaign, I'm working with the Haiti Education Foundation, which supports over 30 schools around remote parts of Haiti.
Where?
The schools that will receive books and donations to be able to buy books are all in the southern mountains of Haiti.
When?
I'm most-likely going to Haiti next spring or fall.
After raising money to buy computers and supplies last year, I was able to take a trip last year to southern Haiti to give 15 computers to a school and supplies that were given to the younger kids. I really had a great time and with your donations, I was able to put smiles on kid's faces in Haiti!
