FCC - March for Marty
Donation protected
The Event: March for Marty
Who: Everyone (all willing Marchers welcome)
What: Participants can choose 20 laps, 10 laps, 5 laps or kids race.
Where: Merv G Hughes Oval, 99 Farnsworth Avenue, Footscray
When: Sunday, 28 January 2018, 10:30am start to be followed by T20 game of Past and Present Players from 1:00pm with food and refreshments throughout the afternoon.
Our Cause:
We are raising funds to help cover the medical expenses of Yousra Alamgir's cancer treatment and the legal application to help Marty and Yousra gain the necessary visa to stay in Australia.
Shaifi Moazzem ("Marty" as he's known around the club) has been a Bulldog since 2014/2015 but it seems much longer. An immediately much loved member of our playing group, he’s given the Dogs plenty on and off the field with his work ethic, sense of humour, team first attitude and sub-continental flair. Think wrists through mid-wicket and big ripping off-spin. Pretty good hair too.
Marty and Yousra have been married since 2014. From Dhaka, Bangladesh, they have been have been living and studying in Melbourne since 2013. Marty works as a curator and Yousra is studying her Masters in Accounting at RMIT.
In July, Marty and Yousra recieved some terrible news. Yousra was diagnosed with breast cancer. To add another layer of complexity to all of this, Marty and Yousra’s visa's are due to expire in March 2018. The unfortunate reality is that Yousra's cancer diagnosis will make navigating the visa process significantly more difficult as Yousra's cancer treatment may exceed the immigration departments threshold for health care costs for visa applicants.
In order to stay in Australia and give Yousra the best treatment possible, Marty and Yousra will have to make legal application to have the the health care threshold associated with the visa waived or an exemption applied.
This legal application needs to be prepared and submitted for assessment prior to the March deadline so the funds to pay for the associated legal fees are required urgently.
The costs of both Yousra’s cancer treatment and the legal application will be substantial and that's where we can help.
Our Goal:
$10,000.00 or more.
About the day:
The March will kick off at 10:30am and conclude around 1:00pm but all are welcome to join when they can. The theme of the March will be a 'Water fight' with water balloons available at the ground for spectators to throw, a giant slip'n'slide for all participants and water pistols will be encouraged.
All willing 'Marchers' can grab a sponsorship form from the club or Footscray Cricket Club facebook page and ask all friends, family, acquaintances to sponsor you for each lap you compete or a flat donation. Any and every donation will be gratefully accepted, so give however much you can afford. If anyone outside of the club would like to get involved in the March we'd love to have them and their attendance should be encouraged. There will be spot prizes for participants (including best-dressed) and every donation of $20.00 or more will gain a ticket into a draw with three major prizes on offer. There will also be further fund raising endeavour’s on the day, a bouncing castle for the kids, the BBQ will be going and the bar open.
Once 'Marty's March' has concluded, the crowd will be entertained by a T20 match involving some past and present players. If you've been involved with Footscray in the past you are sure to see some familar faces and those of the Bulldog breed who made old Footscray's name.
Wrist bands for an afternoon of Refreshments will be available for $50.00 on the day, so get a bunch of mates together and come on down.
All funds raised on the day will be donated to Marty and Yousra to help give them the best chance to stay in the country and fight Yousra’s cancer as best they can.
This day is about the sum of the parts of the FCC Family and what we offer to those who call themselves ‘Bulldogs’ in their hour of need.
We'd love to see you there!
