It has been four years since we took a long trip to Ohio for what we thought was the last time. Recently, we were informed of the possibility of new protocols to treat Mark's primary disease. There is hope that we can find treatment that will give him better quality of life. The last few months have been a struggle for him. Despite, living his best life always, he lives in constant pain and side effects of his medications and diseases. Most recently in the hospital for pain treatments and surgery this passed week to deal with the consequences of being sick. We've been trying hard to make it on our own, but continue to go further into debt covering medical bills. In order to make this trip, we are humbly asking for your help. Any help, is help. Please pray hard. Mark has papilledema, swelling in the optic nerve area for the first time since his emergency surgeries four years ago. He is going blind again. They will be treating aggressively for the next few months. Pray hard.

Mark was hospitalized and endured yet another lumbar puncture. Pressure is still high. Feeling terrible.
Updated: In December 2014, we spent one full month away from home. Ohio ran a trial where unfortunately, mark failed all three phases. We are currently out of options and are simply treated for pain for the next few months.

We just got back from our fourth trip to Ohio. Unfortunately, results indicate he is getting worse. We are doing everything right, and he is not getting better. He was also diagnosed with Enthesitis, a juvenile form of arthritis. At least that explains the increased pain in his lower back and extremities. They have maximized medical therapy for the next four months. At which time, they will decide to do an experimental trial surgery. Please keep the prayers going. God performs miracles. Despite everything, Mark smiles every day and doesn't give up hope.
Updated: February 5, 2014 Mark is a beautiful 11 year old 6th grade Honor Roll student at Winston Park K-8 Center. He has spent the past 3 years of his life fighting against several chronic illnesses. He has had more than a dozen hospitalizations and lumbar punctures to relieve pressure to no avail. He has since been diagnosed with severe Fibromyalgia, Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy, Chronic Intracranial Hypertension and Chronic Migraine Syndrome. His kidneys and liver are starting to feel the physical affects of his disease and side effects of numerous medications. He needs various types of therapy including daily physical therapy. He and his family travel several times a year to a Pseudotumor Cerebri Clinic in Columbus, Ohio where alternative medical therapy has not yet been exhausted. Mark is humble, wise and incredibly faithful beyond his years.
In response to the mounting medical expenses incurred for Mark's treatment and therapy, we continue to be thankful for all the miralce workers who contribute to his cause. God Bless You

Mark's visit was very positive. We learned many new things about his condition including a new diagnoses of Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy. He is currently stable although a lag in clinical improvement is noted. His medication was increased but not changed. The new rheumotologist is fantastic. He needs a lot of therapy, but we are hopeful.

We will be traveling back to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio on October 8 for additional treatment. Prayers needed.

We took Mark to Nationwide Children's hospital in July 2013, where he was evaluated by a team of experts. His intracranial pressure was up extremely high. Almost a mirror image of the time he had gone blind. After careful evaluation, it is believed that his intracranial pressure is secondary to a systemic illness not yet diagnosed. For this reason, he has begun a new medical treatment, and a battery of tests and therapy in an effort to control the elevation of intracranial pressure before he loses vision once again. Godwilling this will buy some time to discover the true cause of this horrible disease.
We will be traveling back to Ohio on October 8, 2013.
Mark's Miracles is being created to raise funds for all the direct and indirect medical expenses incurred from his battle with Chronic Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), fibromyalgia, and chronic migraine syndrome. We will also need to travel to a clinic in Ohio that has a Pediatric Pseudotumor Cerebri Clinic frequently. Mark currently has therapy four times a week and visits specialist 8 times a month.

Mark's Story:
Mark's battle began on January 1, 2011 when he was diagnosed with an autoimmune vasculitis. That slowly erupted into a nightmare when he began having headaches and losing vision. In March 2011, he had nearly gone blind to Grade 4 Papilledema. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute by the grace of God was able to save his vision although he struggles with daily vision changes. He was diagnosed thereafter with a rare disease called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, also known as pseudotumor cerebri. The disease causes increased cerebral spinal fluid applying immense pressure around his brain causing excruciating pain. He has had more than a dozen hospitalizations and lumbar punctures to relieve pressure to no avail. He has since been diagnosed with severe Fibromyalgia, Atypical Chronic Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and Chronic Migraine Syndrome all of which cause pain. Additionally, his kidneys are starting to feel the consequences of his disease. He is in constant pain, takes 12 prescriptions a day and suffers physically and emotionally. Yet he always manages a smile that touches your heart.
In spite of it all, he is an intelligent 5th grader who excels in all he sets into motion. His unique antics and wittiness keep us laughing and smiling every day. He is humble and incredibly faithful and an example to us all. He adores his sister who idolizes him. So we continue to pray for a cure, pray for some relief, and pray that he can live a long healthy life.
