MEALS FOR CHANGE Food Trailer
Donation protected
Our vision is to provide the homeless and needy in our community with a free, mobile afterhours foodvan service. Our Meals For Change trailer will bring hot meals to those in need, and give each young person and family immediate access to counselling and crisis assistance right when they need it.
THE BACK STORY...
Twelve months ago, two of the largest charities providing meals for our homeless and needy families were forced to cease their meal programs. They were serving a combined total of over 10,100 meals each month to people in need. This means our community has lost more than 122,000 meals for the homeless in the last year alone. This is a MASSIVE crisis!
Our community is ranked as the 7th most disadvantaged Local Government Area in Victoria. Added to that, we have some of the highest rates of disengaged youth, domestic violence and homelessness in the State.
WHO WE ARE...
For 25 years Life-Gate has reached out to the most troubled and isolated youth and families in our community. We're a Counselling and Training Centre committed to helping people overcome the root causes of their crisis situations. We assist over 1,800 every year who are living in abuse, domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, fractured families, or battling with depression, anxiety or suicidal tendencies.
We have a Street Outreach service, a team of trained Outreach Workers, who go out onto the streets of Frankston at night, to provide crisis assistance and meals to those in need. For 25 years, we've served free meals out of the back of a van. The huge loss of meals for the homeless last year has meant our current system is no longer efficient enough for us to feed everyone who comes to our van and still have time to provide the counselling, crisis assistance and support our Outreach Workers are there to give!
Our meals are more than just food in bellies ... they are an opportunity for hurting or needy people to receive the practical care, rehabilitation and counselling that will empower them to experience restoration in their lives. Our meals are literally 'Meals For Change'
...We really need your help!
We need a more efficient set-up so our Outreach Workers can prepare meals more quickly and have more time to provide the counsel and support each person comes to our van seeking. We also need a set-up that has its own power, water and lighting so that we have the freedom to set up wherever we need to, to reach the most people, without being limited to spots that have these facilities.
Our team have been working hard to make a difference - we've designed the Meals For Change trailer so that it is fitted out to meet our specific needs. We also have a company lined up who were willing to work with us on perfecting the design and are now waiting for our "go ahead" to start building.
Our Meals For Change trailer will have a BBQ, gas stove, fridge, lighting and hot water, and a huge awning to keep our volunteers and clients dry in the pouring rain on freezing winter nights.
We've officially secured a grant for $10,000 towards the building costs and are now only $26,000 short of getting our Meals For Change food trailer up and running. We need as few as 800 people (a pretty small number when you think about how many friends we all have on Facebook) to contribute $20 and we'll have reached our goal.
Please share this with everyone you know!
Every donation over $2 is tax deductable. If you're a business and you'd like to sponsor the Meals For Change trailer, we have 3 levels of corporate sponsorship - Gold ($2000), Silver ($1000) and Bronze ($500) Sponsors. We would be proud to have your business logo blazed across the trailer in honour of your generosity.
It'll take 8-10 weeks for the guys to build our trailer, so please help us reach this goal as quickly as possible, so the trailer is built and we're ready to go in March 2018.
