Help Mel Dancy To His Final Home

Donation protected
With a sad and heavy heart, we must tell you that on Sunday morning, October 9, 2016, Mel Dancy finally found rest after being hospitalized or in rehabilitation since April of last year.  No one wants to bury a loved one, but here we are, planning for his final send off.

Although we, his extended family and friends, are heartbroken, it came to our attention he didn't leave enough resources to cover these expenses.

The arrangements that have been made are:

THE VIEWING - Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 / 5PM-9PM Trinity Funeral Chapel, 13300 W. Dixie Highway, N. Miami, Fl 33161

FUNERAL SERVICE - Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 / 4PM at Trinity Funeral Chapel

REPAST - immediately following in Hallandale, FL.

INTERNMENT - Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 / 11:15AM at South Fla National Veteran's Cemetery, 6501 N State Rd 7 (441), Lake Worth, FL 33449.  We will be departing from Trinity Funeral Chapel at 10AM.

A lot of thought went into using this GofundMe page to help again.   We're doing this because he deserves it and his family, all of whom must travel from NY, need help to pay their final respects.  You helped us raise money before to get his home ready for his return.  He didn't get to enjoy seeing how you helped, but he knew you did and he was thankful.  (Your names and and past donations are still in place.)  We need $4500.00 to send him to his final home.  It shows in the new goal.  Anything above hat will be given to his family to help offset the cost of travel.

If you’d like to make a donation to help defray some of the mounting expenses your can do it here or send an email.  If you'd like to write something we can read for you, let us know that as well and his great friend, Alice Day, will make sure it happens.

Mel was a reknown jazz artist who was inducted into The 2010 South Florida Jazz Hall Of Fame and he was a United States Air Force veteran will receive a military burial at no cost for serving his country, which is a great help. He was one of good guys who put loved to make people smile with his music and crazy sense of humor.

He leaves in mourning, his two sons, Melville III (aka Beau) and Adrian; his daughter-in law, Penny; Grandchildren Khasan, Naquan, Starsha, Melville IV, Jamel, Jalah, Tyesha, Kamaal, Quaron and Kyla; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; me, his "step daughter" and a host of dear friends that I can't begin to name without leaving someone out, but you know who you are.

Live jazz tributes will begin with Eddy Balzola for on Thursday, October 20 at Le Chat Noir, 2 S. Miami Ave. Music will start at 6PM, so bring your ax, your memories and a helping hand. Piano, drums, congas supplied. We need to send Mel off in grand style.

Mel's final gig will be on Wednesday, October 26, at Luna Star Café, 775 NE 125th St, Miami 33161.  Doors open at 6PM.  Join us.

Mel, we love you madly. You will be missed even more.
