Memorial Bicycle Ride

August 22, 2018 marked 16 years since my 20 year old son Ryan unexpectedly passed on his brother's birthday. He became an organ donor and gave three people a second chance with his gifts of life.
One year later, his closest friends were inspired to honor him in a way that challenged their spirits, physical strength and mental endurance. They pedaled 200 miles from our State Capital in Lansing, MI to the Chalfonte House in Elk Rapids (Traverse City area), a place Ryan loved dearly. Through sponsorship, money was raised to purchase new bikes for the kids who live throughout MI and go to Chalfonte House summer camp. When others heard of this bike ride they wanted to participate as well, and so the next year "The Ryan Giannini Memorial 11 Legged Lake Tour" was born! The name came from the original 6 riders, one being an above the knee amputee, which equals 11 legs.
On 8-18-18 we celebrated the ride's 15th anniversary! No one could have ever dreamed back then that it would continue for all these years. Bicyclists enjoyed gorgeous scenery around quaint villages and the amazing Chain O'Lakes. Many thanks to all who were a part of this! More info about our event can be found at:

All proceeds from our event will be used to do something special at Ryan Giannini Park (also called RGP). The park is owned by the Chalfonte Foundation (a 501(c)3 children's charity run solely by volunteers and donations) and is located north of Elk Rapids. Currently, this primitive twelve acres of woods and meadows has a campfire and two rustic cabins, where the Chalfonte Kids enjoy an outdoor experience when they attend summer camp. The possibilities for this site include adding a tree house that is accessible for those with disabilities, a meditation garden and countless other ideas. The ultimate purpose is to utilize this piece of land so the kids and the community can enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature and make special memories at RGP.
Even though Ryan is not physically here, his Spirit continues to reach out and touch others.
