Memories for Melissa

Donation protected
Melissa is an old school friend who has shared her tragic story in the hope to save others and increase awareness of the rare cancer she is suffering from.

Melissa has been diagnosed with stage four signet ring cell appendix cancer, also known as psuedomyxoma peritonei (PMP), which affects just one in three million people and has been told it will be a miracle if she lives to see the next two years.

As if one cancer wasn’t enough to deal with, Melissa also has bowel cancer, ovarian cancer and peritoneal cancer.
At the end of September, she had cytoreduction surgery which is described as the “mother of all surgeries", with the operation lasting an agonising 15 hours.

As well as discovering a large tumour on Melissa’s left ovary, which she had originally been told was not cancerous, she also had a vast number of organs removed including the gallbladder and most of her intestines.  As a result, Melissa now has a stoma bag and short bowel syndrome.

The 33 year old is married to her soul mate Carl and is Mum to Evan, who is 8 years old. One of Melissa’s main aims is to cherish family time.  She also has a dream to take her Son to DisneyLand.

I have set this page up on behalf of our year group at Southmoor School, Melissa's year Group, the Class of 98.  We all hope to raise some much needed funds to help create some amazing memories for Melissa and her family to cherish.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
