What is Me to We?
Me to We is a team of motivated and inspired youth ranging from ages 16-17. We volunteer to change the lives of members of our community. Me to We is the youth division of the larger Free the Children Organization that works to improve the lives of children around the world in developing countries. As active members in our community, our team organizes and performs fundraisers that bring awareness to social injustice issues around the world.

Our Volunteer Trip
Our time in the Dominican Republic is organized for March Break of 2016. In the Dominican Republic, we would be visiting a newly opened Free the Children Village. Together with Free the Children, an award-winning international charity, we would be working with indigenous communities and building sustainable solutions to the education and healthcare challenges faced for 6 days. The cost is $2800 for each student to attend. We are aiming at going with 12 students. Exactly half of each student's total cost is donated directly to our Free the Children village.
The building projects have already begun and were started by Free the Children, professionals, local workers, and other Me to We teams. Other groups like ours fly over and volunteer on weekly rotations. The region’s first Free the Children Schools are being built for the less fortunate communities of the country. We’re stepping away from the resorts and immersing ourselves into the realities of many while trying to provide a solution to the education problems of the less fortunate natives and Haitian refugees who do not have access to education, healthcare, or sustainable income.  Click for more information.

Past Fundraisers
Over the years, Me to We has annually participated in a food drive entitled “We Scare Hunger”, where the food collected was distributed to families in need within Ajax and the Durham Region. This past fall, a total of 42 families received food and help from our team. 32% of people who use food banks are indeed youth and in 2012, 14% of food banks in Canada ran out of food. We believe that together, we are making a difference, one fundraiser at a time. Other fundraisers we participate in are “The Vow of Silence”, which was used to bring awareness to Malala, the female Pakistani youth who was shot for fighting for education rights in her country. We and members of our school all vowed to be silent for an entire day to represent the struggle of women around the world who are denied the right of education and are forced to say nothing. Our other fundraisers include “Brick by Brick”, where change is collected in a box, where every $20 is enough to purchase a brick for the school building projects of the Free the Children Organization, and “Buy a Bear”, where teddy bears were sold during lunch hours. Our upcoming fundraisers include  “Dollars for Dominican”, and our annual Vow of Silence. We will also be selling handmade bracelets in our community: a fundraiser entitled Bead The Change.
