Murray High Board Game Club

My name is Mike Chipman and I'm the Biology teacher at Murray High School. I'm also an avid board gamer. The marriage of these two things piqued the interest of my students, so they wanted a club. I jumped at the chance to sponsor it. They named our club "Gametes" - because science + games = fun.
Over the past several months, we have been using my own collection to learn and play games. To better serve the club and the student body as a whole, I'd like to start a collection for the club.
Each game will cost an average of $30. With $500+, we could buy a great starting collection. We could also buy prototyping materials so they can work on their own designs.
Studies have shown that playing board games that involve lots of decisions and complex ordering. They also involve social interactions that aren't normal in a school setting. These two ideas serve to strengthen the students involved in gaming. They will also prepare them for more arduous tasks, like a college courseload.
Many students who have nothing else to do after school have enjoyed playing games with us. Playing games with friends is always a better alternative than sitting at home. This club offers this great solution.
We meet weekly on Wednesdays. We'll also have several weekend events throughout the year.
