Our names are Allison Buell and Antonio Baeza and we have had the pleasure of knowing Mike and Michelle (Ward) Elliott for more than 30 years. We all attended George Rogers Clark High School in Whiting, Indiana. Mike and Michelle were storied high-school sweethearts who got married and had beautiful twins named Hannah and Justin. Their love has endured through good and bad times.

The toughest time has been Mike’s ongoing battle with sarcoma cancer, which has been aggressive and difficult to treat. The tumors have impacted the bones and tissue around Mike’s shoulder and chemotherapy has not been effective. He recently underwent an invasive and dangerous surgery as his last hope.

Mike endured a grueling, eight-hour surgery. Surgeons removed his arm, shoulder, part of his sternum and two ribs. Fortunately, surgeons were able to remove the entire tumor from his chest cavity and neck. A cement mesh was created to protect his heart, chest and lungs.

Mike is a true warrior. Despite the treatments and surgeries over the years, Mike has never complained or asked for help. Michelle is cut from the same cloth.

But today, you can help ease the financial burden of the Elliott family by donating to this Go Fund Me.

I’ve crossed paths with Mike and Michelle many times over the years. Where did I see them? They were always volunteering at school, sports and community events. They know the true meaning of lending a hand without asking for anything in return. They are the type of parents and people who are the first to volunteer and the last to leave at the end of the day.

To know Mike and Michelle is to know the spirit of the people of Northwest Indiana, those of us from the Region who are tough, determined and resilient. The underlying current of those traits, however, is kindness, and I don’t know any people who are kinder than Mike and Michelle.

We are asking that you help donate through this Go Fund Me Account. Anything you can do to help the Elliott family will give them peace of mind.

Thank you, Antonio and Allison
