Race to Alaska - Team Microship

There is glory in using inappropriate tools.
As a catalyst for the adventure of a lifetime, I will be embarking in June in a race to Alaska , pitting sail and human powered vehicles against logic (and each other) in a grueling 750-mile extravaganza of seamanship and insanity.
This is not an easy race.
There are no motors allowed, even as a backup.
There is no support crew allowed, no package drops or support ships, and everything is done by your crew. My crew is just me.
The boat is a custom built 19' Trimaran Designed by Steve Roberts, called the Microship. The boat was a 10-year endeavor of building that ended with the boat in storage. Now I want to give this boat the journey it deserves.
I am raising funds to outfit the boat and make the necessary changes for this to be a safe journey up the inside passage to Alaska.
The majority of the funding will go toward upgrades and repairs to known issues on the boat as well as a few added safety features. These include:
- A current VHF radio with built in AIS to be able to track and keep clear of other vessels, including container ships.
- Adding a trampoline between the main hull and the pontoons. This will enable me to safely move about the boat for on-water repairs.
- Purchasing a satellite tracking device. This will allow me to call for rescue in an emergency, even when out of the reach of VHF Radio.
Other funds are needed to provision the boat for the trip, as well shop space and paying the designer and builder for his work on the project.
A key part of this adventure is ongoing live dispatches in both blog and video forms, I look forward to sharing the adventure with you!
