Hey everybody, Jordan here. I'm a programmer / game developer. My favorite thing to do is create.
My programming experience started off ten years ago with HTML, PHP, and CSS. For those that don't know what that means -- I made webpages. My very first game was a web-based version of Blackjack. My second was a web-based RPG / RTS game where you built a city and used it to attack people. This game wasn't dissimilar to modern games like Castle Clash.
Being 13 years old at the time, I didn't publish either.
Working with web development frustrated me at that age. Each browser (firefox, safari, internet explorer, etc) draws the html differently, so you have to consider everything when building a web page. Not to mention that there were certain elements I just didn't grasp at that age. So I moved on to building games in Game Maker.
Using Game Maker, I managed to make what I would consider my defining game: Stay Alive. In this game, you played as a princess in a Mario-style level. The catch? Things were falling from the sky and from the sides, making the objective pretty clear: Stay Alive. It played like an old arcade game, with power ups and a score based on how long you lived. This game was the one that inspired me to stick with game development as my craft.
Since then, I've learned an incredible amount. I played around with XNA when it was a thing, I messed with Unreal Development Kit a bit, and then I stumbled in to Unity. Now I've made a decision -- Unity is the engine I want to work with. I've been prototyping and learning the ins and outs of Unity for about three years now, and nothing I have seen has not excited me. Well, except for one thing, and that is the Pro license's price.
I simply cannot afford it. This is where you come in. Help me follow my dreams of creating games full time by helping me get my Unity Pro license. With it, I can do amazing things. The Pro license enables things like post-processing effects (bloom, refraction, professional-look water, reflections, and all sorts of amazing shader-based things), projections, dynamic textures, and all sorts of crazy things that probably don't make sense to most of you reading this.
So I'll say it simply: Unity Pro will let me make professional-grade games.
If you made it this far, I want to say, whether you donate or not, thank your for taking the time to read my story.
*Edit: I just want to add that if everyone on my facebook friends list were to donate $7, I could affor the license. Every little bit helps, even small amounts.
But wait, there's more! In addition to being an awesome human being and helping me pursue my dream, I promise to give you a free copy of any game I publish, so long as your donation is over $30. Which game is your choice. If you are interested in this offer, I'll hold on to your contact information until you request a game I have published, at which point I'll get you that game for free.
