March 2015 - Below please find the original outline for Phase 1 Homologation. For futher details on this please review the first 37 updates.
In the past, Mont Ste. Marie hosted many provincial, FIS and North American Championship (Nor-Am) races on the Outaouais ski hill, long considered one of the best GS runs in Canada. Many great Canadian skiers such as Todd Brooker, Ken Read, Brian Stemmle, Mike Tommy, Patrick Biggs, Eric Guay and of course our own Betsy Clifford (1970 World Champion) and current local stars Mikaela Tommy and our own Dustin Cook (2015 World Championship Silver medalist and World Cup SG Gold medalist) raced and trained on the mountain.
When the "parabolic ski" came along in the mid 90's racers began to carve much further across the hill at greater speed and the Outaouais run was deemend to be too narrow and no longer compliant with FIS safety standards. There are now no homologated (approved) FIS GS runs in the region. Future provincial championships, regardless of age category, will require FIS homologation, which will force all regional athletes to travel long distances at great cost.
We would like to change this and hope for your support in re-establishing a world class regional FIS approved (homologated) GS, SL & U16 Super G race and training hill. This enhancement will also be a huge benefit to all skiers (not just racers) for it will widen the top half of Outaouais (from waterfall up) and make for a substantially better run to ski. We need to provide funding for the lengthening, widening and race preparation of “Outaouais” on Cheval Blanc at Mont Ste Marie. FIS requires the run to be a minimum of 40 meters wide with a vertical drop of 250 meters.

Dustin Cook Honorary Chair of the Outaouais Homologation Fundraising Project discusses the run from the top of the future World Cup GS start. To quote Dustin “This has to happen”.
The remarkable results achieved by Dustin Cook at the World Championships and on the World Cup this season, as well as the improved skiing and race results of our current group of local skiers is providing the catalyst to restore Outaouais to today’s FIS safety standards, which will benefit all racers in the region.
In receiving FIS homologation, the region will be able to once again attract provincial level races, apply for FIS level races and even qualify the hill for Canadian and Nor-Am championships in both SL and GS. The hill would even qualify for U16 Super G. It will also serve as a world-class training run for local teams to hone their skills.
It is estimated that the costs to complete the project will be in the $190,000 range, with substantial blasting, cutting, and soil movement required. We would like to start this summer and have the hill ready for the 2015-2016 season.
