Hi! My name is Morgan Ross, I'll be 22 this month on May the 16th and this is my story.. About four months ago I was healthy and then one day I started to feel some abdominal pain. The pain was not bad but continued to happen almost daily. I also started to feel sick a lot, nausea and my stomach always appeared bloated. I was living in Columbus, Oh, about an hour and a half away from my parents, I told my mom about what was happening and she was concerned and told me to go get checked, but I have always been a hypochondriac so I was hesitant. Some days I didn't feel sick at all and then some days the abdominal pain was so bad I couldn't move. One morning I woke up and couldn't get out of bed and that's when I decided I needed to get checked out. So with my family doctor being so far away I went to the nearest urgent care. The doctor at the urgent care said I had a bladder infection and sent me home with a prescription to treat the infection.  I went back to my apartment and only got worse. I started to run a fever and the pain was on a scale of 1-10 a 10, I was miserable. I called my mom and she insisted on coming to Columbus and picking me up so she did. My symptoms continued throughout the night but in the morning I was feeling better. My mom had made me and appointment that day with my family doctor and there he also tested my urine and said it was testing positve for a bladder infection but he also thought it could possibly be my appendix so he sent me the the ER and ordered me to get blood work and have a cat scan. At the ER they took my blood then took me back for a cat scan and my mom and I waited for the results. We were laughing and just talking and not really worried. I was a little nervous because the doctor had told me if it was my appendix then they would do surgery that day and take it out but it wasn't that big of a deal. Until..the ER doctor come into my room with my cat scan results and he was very concerned. He started asking who my gynecolologist was and when the last time I was checked and the number for the office and etc..my mom and I were confused and the doctor wasn't saying much just asking questions. Finally he just asked if it was ok that he have my cat scans looked at by a gynecologist there and we said yes and they left the room and we were very worried then. The doctor was gone for about 30 minutes and when he finally came back he had said that they discovered a big mass on my ovary and that they were going to transport me to The Ohio State University medical center. I rode and hour and a half in the back of an ambulance thinking about everything the doctor had said. I knew right then my life would be changing. I have never been more afraid than I was in that moment..knowing that something was wrong but not knowing exactly what and not knowing what was going to happen or how serious it was but knowing it was serious enough to be transported to one of the best medical centers. When we arrived at to OSU they took me directly to my room. I was staying at the James on the 20th floor. The James is the cancer research hospital at OSU...that made me nervous. They immediately hooked me up to an IV and took so much blood, they did and exam and then after waiting for forever my doctor finally came in. He told me the mass was big(12cm around comparable to a baby's head) and that they wanted to do surgery within the next couple days to get it out. The whole time there my family and I was clueless as to what it could be, we had our thoughts but until surgery it was hard to assume. I remember it was a Sunday when the doctor did my surgery. He told me once he was inside my stomach he would be able to tell me more information, whether the tumor/mass was benign or malignant. After the surgery the doctor explained that they removed the tumor but it was pressed up against my left ovary so they ook that out and also my appendix and Fallopian tube but they were able to get it all and everything else looked good and nothing had spread.  He was concerned because the tumor had ruptured a little and there was a small amount of blood that had leaked. That could very bad if the tumor was malignant but until my biopsy results came in we would not know. He said initially he thought while in surgery that the tumor looked benign but the pathologist said it was malignant(he didn't agree with the patholigist and said she was not the regular patholigist there) but like he said we wouldn't know until my biopsy come in which would be a couple weeks. So after recovering a couple days in the hospital after my surgery I was able to go home. I was in a lot of pain from my surgery and was very nervous for my results. After a coupe weeks went by the doctors office had called and scheduled me and appointment to come in for my results. When I got to the doctors office they did a checkup and then my family and I met with the doctor in his office. Thats when he told me that my tumor was malignant. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at 21. He went on to explain that my type of tumor was rare. It's called a Yolk Sac tumor. He said they don't know the cause, it's not hereditary, it's just bad luck. Although I didn't get the news I wanted, I do still feel very blessed. My cancer is 95% curable. I'm doing chemo right now and I should be finished June 22nd of this year If everything continues to go well. It is very tough and it truly is a fight but I know that everything happens for a reason and that God has a plan and that once all of this is said and done that I will be a much better person. I'm trying to raise some money because of all of my medical bills and I did have to leave my apartment in Columbus and move back home with my family in Waverly. I do have a roommate in Columbus so moving out left all the responsibility on him. I'm unable to work right now and I do want to be able to help my family and my roommate out. Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
