CWBL National Championships 2016

Okay, Team MB Wheelchair Basketball supporters... Team MB is back on the map in the world of wheelchair basketball, however, we need your help to get us back on the court!!

Following the last Canada Games in 2011, many of our athletes aged out of eligibility at the junior level (up to the age of 24) leaving our program on the back burner until new recruitment strategies could be put in place.

And theeeeen, January 2014 happened!! The rebuilding process began! From recruitment of numerous junior/mini athletes and 2 now NCCP trained coaches,  to provincially based training camps, U19 national camp opporunities and even a solid roster of 9 athletes who attended the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, British Columbia! WE DID IT! We came, we saw, we conquered!

Now this is where we need your help...We need to get on the court and gain more competitive experience. That being said, It is our hope to attend the CWBL National Championships, taking place in Kamploops, British Columbia from April 22-24th, 2016.

The Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championship takes place every spring and is the premiere national event on the annual domestic wheelchair basketball calendar.

The tournament is open to all eligible CWBL teams in Canada and it is our hope that we will get to compete for the FIRST TIME SINCE 2007 as TEAM MANITOBA in the open division.

This competitive opportunity will allow us to integrate a number of our junior athletes and paralympic hopefuls, with our alumni athletes from previous Canada Games teams and even those from many years ago. By doing this, it is our hope that we can provide mentorship and a basis of growth for those who have big dreams, but to also, re-establish a sense of team work, community and competition for those who may be just looking to get/stay involved!

Although timelines are tight, (April 14th, 2016) we are committed to making this comeback happen!! We have overcome many obstacles and barriers since our rebuild began, so why stop now, right?!

Any money raised will be used to offset the cost of flights, hotels, tournament fees, and transportation of athletes attending the event!

You could be part of helping keep wheelchair basketball alive in Manitoba. A reason we get to re-establish our presence within Canadian wheelchair basketball community!! So please help, and donate today! Anything helps!

For those who are interested.. A little history!

The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association began in 1962 as the Monday Night Club with assistance from the Canadian Paraplegic Association, the Manitoba Rehabilitation Hospital and The Society for Crippled Children and Adults. In 1969, the Club expanded into a Provincial Organization with its own constitution. Today, members from every part of Manitoba form a strong active and self-governing association.

The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association is committed to leadership in the promotion of well being and a healthy lifestyle through the development of sport and fitness related opportunities for Manitobans with physcial disabilities.

Over the years, an integrated and inclusive group of able-bodied and athletes with disabilities have been given the opportunity to compete at a variety of provincial and nationally based competitions; prodominantly CWBL National Championships and Canada Games avenues.

Thank you so much for your donations! We are so grateful!
