Bring Narrative 4 to Charleston

Several events this past year in Charleston, SC have brought to light the seemingly impassable boundaries of race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status that exist today in this country. But a group of educators is working to bring the Narrative 4 storytelling exchange program to Charleston in order to foster dialogue between our students, across these boundaries. We trust that, by truly hearing and telling someone else’s story, our students will come to know “fearless hope” by experiencing “radical empathy”.

We plan to start the exchanges after the New Year, so we are hoping to raise the necessary funds in time to secure a training session in early 2016. The funds raised will be used to cover travel and lodging costs for the two-to-three Narrative 4 associates who will train us in the program’s methodology during a day-long session. Any funds that are left over will be donated to Narrative 4.

In the end, you will be helping us create a safe space for students from a variety of backgrounds to share the experiences that have shaped their lives. You will be helping us help them to start the conversations that Charleston needs to have in continuing to reach across borders and heal our community.
