Derrius Drakes, 23, was standing outside about 4:30 p.m. in the 11300 block of South Parnell when someone shot him in the back, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Drakes, of the 200 block of West 11th Street, took himself to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m., authorities said
Derrius Lemuel Drakes Sr. was a hard working father and family man. He was attending Everest for Dental assistance also working to support his family. He was a great friend and his smile lit up every room and heart he was ever welcomed into. He was was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. With expressed permission from the Drakes' family I am asking for donations that will be presented to the family as well as a card with the names of all who donated to help them in this time of need. Any donation is welcomed and appreciated.
