New Saskatoon Mosque

As-salamu alaykum,
First and foremost, I would like to wish each and every one of you a Ramadan Mubarak! We are blessed to see yet another Ramadan dawn upon us and InShaAllah we live to see many more.
Ramadan as we know is a month of forgiveness, a month of sacrifice and a month of giving. With that said, I would like to stress on one aspect of Islam that to me is looked over upon by many. Zakat (Charity) as we know is a large part of Islam. In fact, it is one of the 5 fundamental pillars of our religion. As a young adult, I have come to notice that we, as the youth of Islam, do not pay this much attention. Whether it is because our parents pay our Zakat or that we feel that until we are in our professions, we are unable to give. This, in my opinion, is incorrect. We spend countless dollars everyday but when it comes to give, our wallets are empty. If you can afford to grab a coffee or a bite to eat, I assure you, you CAN give. This Ramadan, amongst all other good deeds you partake in, I would sincerely like to ask you all to give. Give blessings, give forgiveness, give time, give someone your help, give food, and last but not least give any monetary amount you can. Whether you are able donate $100 or just $1, please do so. Not only will you be rewarded by Allah (SWT), but you yourself will feel an immense amount of joy from doing so, I assure you.

Today was the first Jummah of this blessed month and during the Khutbah at my local Masjid, our Imam made a grand announcement for our community: we are building a new mosque. Alhamdulillah.
I have lived in Saskatoon, Canada for almost 7 years. These past 7 years, I have seen this city grow drastically and our Muslim community as well. The growth and changes have been incredible and Alhamdulillah Saskatoon is now the home of more than 5000 Muslims. This may not be a big number to some, but 10 years ago this city had only a Muslim community of about 500. To us, this is a huge growth. In 2008 when I made this city my home, there was one Mosque which was also running a private Islamic school. Now there are 2, one on each end of the city. The Islamic school has been approved by the government and is an amazing educational institution for our children. We have expanded our Masjid as our community grew and built a new parking lot which once was all grass. We have also accommodated our growing community to the best of our abilities, providing larger areas for Eid & Taraweeh prayer so we can all pray together comfortably. These things mentioned may not feel as big to others who live in larger cities where they are blessed to have Mosques in various regions, but to us, this means largely.
In short- we have grown & we are continuously growing.
As Muslims we are aware of the rewards of building or helping in building a House of Allah.
Our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had once said:
"Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, be it large or small, Allah will build for him likewise in Jannah"
(Bukhari)
As mentioned, the Islamic Association of Saskatchewan is now looking to build another Mosque. Alhamdulillah, with generous donations, we have already purchased the land. We are now collecting donations so we can start the building process.
I would like to ask all of you to please donate and help our community in building this Mosque. Whether it be a couple of dollars or hundreds, I encourage you to give any amount you can. Even the smallest bit helps. As we know in the month of Ramadan your every good deed is multiplied. Please donate what you are able to in this time and share this with anyone you know that can.
Remember,
“The best charity is that given in Ramadan.”
[At-Tirmithi].
I would like to sincerely thank each and everyone who as read, donated, or shared this. It means a lot to my community and I.
JazakAllah,
Maha Yaqoob
